Wedding Planning

As someone who has worked in the wedding industry for awhile now, I can tell you that there are a few things that you should consider when planning your big day. One of the most important things to keep in mind is the importance of creating a branded wedding. Your wedding is a reflection of who you are as a couple, and it’s important that your wedding reflects your personal style and taste. Forget the idea that wedding branding is only for those glam influencers or mega-buck budgets. You don’t need a graphic designer or publicist to set the style of your wedding. Branding your wedding is all about setting the vibe, creating a mood, and making your special day ooze “you” from every nook and cranny. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing my top five tips for creating your own branded wedding.

1. Create Your Wedding Vibe Vocabulary

Before you jump into the wild world of wedding branding, let’s get talking about your wedding vibe. Imagine your dream wedding—is it a classic fairy tale or a contemporary chic affair? Picture the style, the feels, the entire ambiance. Now, let’s put words to it! What words describe your style and the emotions you want to evoke? Do you want your wedding to feel timeless, cozy, energetic, or maybe even a bit glamorous? Jot down 5-10 keywords that resonate with you and your partner.

It can be quite hard to get started here. It can be equally difficult to narrow your keywords down to only 5 – 10! So here are a handful of things to consider when setting out on this brainstorming adventure:

  • How do you envision your wedding album? Close your eyes and imagine flipping through your wedding album. What style of photography or videography makes your heart skip a beat? Are you envisioning light and airy, vibrant and colorful, or perhaps dark and moody shots to encapsulate your big day?
  • How can you infuse your love story and unique essence into the design? Consider hobbies, culture, traditions, music loves or special shared moments that will add a personalized touch and scream “YOU” to your guests.
  • When’s the Big Day?: The season can set the tone for your big day. Do you fancy the vibrant hues of autumn, the bright open skies of summer or the cozy warmth of winter? Seasonal feel and colour can help set the tone of your day.
  • What is your couple style? Are you more of a classic, timeless duo or trendsetters breaking new ground? Try to nail down the style that resonates with you, and consider fashion, interior design, art and food.
  • What do you want your guests to always remember? When the confetti settles and the echoes of “I do” linger, what do you want your guests to say about your wedding? Envision the words they’ll use to describe the day, making it an event to remember!

2. Get Pinning!

Ah, Pinterest – the treasure trove of inspiration! Time to unleash your inner design diva and start pinning like there’s no tomorrow. Search for images, colors, patterns, and anything that aligns with those buzzwords you penned down. Let your creativity run wild and gather a collection that makes your heart do a happy dance.

Remember, Pinterest isn’t just for wedding photos. Grab anything that sparks inspiration, from funky fonts to snazzy textures. I like to search for fabrics, wallpapers, fashion and landscapes to curate an overall vibe for any event I’m planning. Wedding branding is all about pulling from all sorts of inspiration.

3. Creating Your Vision Board

Now that you’ve got a treasure trove of images, let’s organize and unleash your creativity in a visual masterpiece. Say hello to the mood board! This bad boy is a collage of your wedding vision—images, textures, patterns, and text, all harmoniously pieced together. Use platforms like Canva and Milanote to create a digital mood board that encapsulates the vibe you’re going for. It’s like creating a mood-filled vision of your dream wedding!

Also remember to add fonts to your vision board. Like all good branding, go with the aesthetic that aligns with your wedding vibe and 2 or 3 is enough! Keep it consistent and cohesive. Canva has a great guide to font pairings that is worth a look.

Extra Tip: This is the perfect time to bring a Wedding Planner or Stylist onboard to help you create a clear vision. They will also be able to point you in the right direction for vendors and suppliers who can help create your vision and make your mood board a reality.

4. Picking Your Palette

Ah, colours – the spice of life! It’s time to zero in on the hues that resonate with you the most and make them work with your unique wedding branding. Dive into your mood board and pick out those colours that make your heart skip a beat. Go for a mix of light and dark tones for that perfect balance. And oh, don’t forget to snag those fancy HEX colour codes for that extra pizzazz. Canva has an easy to use colour palette generator that picks the colours out of your images for you! A helpful tool if you have created your vision board in Canva but you can upload any image and it will do the work for you – for free!

Extra Tip: Florists and Stylists are excellent resources to include at this point in your branding journey. Their eye for colour combination do’s and don’ts will give you an added edge for the rest of your branding experience.

5. Adding Personal Touches

Now, let’s talk personalization! Ever thought about having a wedding logo, monogram, or motif? It’s not a must, but it’s a classy way to add a unique touch. Whether it’s a custom monogram or a symbol that resonates with both of you, incorporating it throughout your wedding design is like adding your signature to every aspect. Music lyrics or lines of poetry can also be a great way to create a stand out wedding “brand” that sells your vibe and makes guests smile. Like any good brand logo, it can be a clear representation of your wedding vibe and pull everything together cohesively throughout your event.

Get Branding!

Now comes the fun part – infusing your wedding ‘brand’ into every detail. From your wedding website to your invitations, from table settings to signage, let your wedding branding shine through. It’s about consistency and creating a visual story that’s uniquely ‘you’. So, go ahead, sprinkle that brand goodness and make your wedding an unforgettable celebration!

Here’s the golden nugget: Stay true to yourself and your vision. It’s all about the feels and the unique story you’re telling. Stay consistent, but remember, a little imperfection adds that human touch. Your wedding is about the love you share, and that’s the real magic. Trust your instincts, trust the process, and make your wedding journey one heck of a beautiful, branded ride!
